Snowdon Summit Blog :: Back on Top

On schedule, work has recommenced on Snowdon's summit in glorious Spring sunshine. The summit is clear of snow and last Friday SMR (Snowdon Mountain Railway) made its first trip to the top this year, after track maintenance over the winter.

SMR opens to the public this Saturday although will not be offering a service to the top of the mountain this season because of the redevelopment work there.

The western end of the site where Hafod Eryri will be erected.

The eastern end of the site where Hafod Eryri will be erected.

The Heras fence around the site is back-up, the highest portaloo in England and Wales has returned, the in-filled footings are being dug out and a level area is being made for the siting of three portacabins. At Deeside, the finishing touches are being made to the steelwork of the new building and it is hoped that by the middle of May a start will have been made on re-erecting it at its final resting place.

Interesting to read through the blog and see how the work is progressing on the summit. Some friends and I are planning to climb Snowdon on the weekend of 21st/22nd April. With the lack of 'facilities' are the construction workers getting used to seeing walkers and climbers dodging behind what cover they can find as there are currently no toilet facilities at the top? Maybe they should rent out their portaloo .. that would raise some money!

Was up there on Easter Sunday and surprised to see the team busily working away! Good luck to all, will be up there again in a few weeks.

Rubble

Rubble is now being carried down the mountain on the train, instead of it being tipped off the summit . There were harsh disagreements against tipping rubble down to Cwm Clogwyn. Now there are better use of the trains (no empty loads down to Llanberis) but is does take more time than usual.
